Nutribullets are essentially blenders – they blend foods, such as fruit, vegetables, seeds and nuts, into liquids or pastes. Unlike traditional blenders, Nutribullets have a bullet-shaped blending cup instead of a jug. You fill the cup, screw on the blade unit, and flip it onto the base to blend. Most models come with ‘sports lids’ that allow you to store and transport a single-portion-size smoothie.
Over the last year or two, the Nutribullet has taken the health food world by a high speed storm. It calls itself a ‘nutrition extractor’ because it blitzes everything up so finely, even seeds and stalks, that all the nutrition becomes available to be absorbed.
What can I do with my Nutribullet?
It makes super quick work of blending up well, pretty much everything. Think of other things you like to have smooth; like pesto, salad dressings, sauces, etc. Just make sure that all ingredients you add to the jug are room temperature or colder – the cups are not heat resistant (besides the Nutribullet RX’s soup jug), and the closed blade/cup setup means that any heat in the contents builds up and creates immense pressure, resulting in leaks at best, and cracked cups at worst.
Raw pasta sauce: You can even make mostly raw pasta sauces – add fresh ingredients like tomatoes, garlic, onions and herbs to the cup, blitz them until smooth, then heat until warm.
Fruit ice cream: Got a freezer full of frozen fruit for smoothies? Why not try fruit ‘ice cream’? Simply add frozen fruit, a couple of dollops of fat free Greek yoghurt and pulse (blitz for 2–3 seconds, then stop, then again, then stop) until smooth.
Salad Dressing: Instead of shaking your salad dressing ingredients, try blending them. This will better emulsify the ingredients so that they last longer without separating.
Hummus: Hummus is very easy to make and the Nutribullet is perfect for blending it smooth if you don’t have a food processor.
Spaghetti Sauce: If you like creamy smooth sauce, try mixing it up in the Nutribullet. If you have the Nutribullet RX, you can even heat it, just like you do with soup. Mix canned tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic, a touch of xylitol and salt, a teaspoon of olive oil, and fresh basil for a quick and easy sauce.
Smoothies: Of course you can also make smoothies!
